This set grew from the cooperation of Swiss engineering (Giroflex) and German design (Martin Stoll). Both companies belonged to the Stoll family and worked on the border of Germany and Switzerland, exchanging patents; in some European markets their products were marked jointly or made under mutual licence, as here.
The style is modernism with brutalist and high-tech touches, in which the metal construction is the main aesthetic accent. A bent chromed tubular-steel frame ends in black foot caps, and the seats and backs are covered in natural leather of a deep dark brown.
The leather has survived in its original, authentic state, without restoration, and its natural patina underlines the history of the set. A horizontal roll at the lower back supports the lumbar area. Each chair can be used on its own or joined with the others into one continuous sofa.
