How we restore mid-century furniture

Every piece in our showroom passes through our workshop in Kyiv. Here is what restoration means in practice, with examples from the collection.
We start by looking
Before any work we look at the whole piece: the frame, the legs, the leather or fabric, the filling and any mechanism. Some pieces need little, some need a full restoration, and some are better left alone.
Wood
Frames, legs and surfaces are repaired, sanded and lacquered so that the original wood and its character stay. On our Space Age coffee table the wooden body was fully restored: the surface sanded and the coating renewed.
On the Coja sofa the frame was sanded and lacquered, and on a pair of Carmen armchairs the wooden frames and the ribbed backs were treated the same way.
Leather and fabric
Where leather cannot be saved we re-cover the piece. The Coja sofa received new leather in our signature green, and a pair of Carmen armchairs fresh olive leather. A swivel lounge chair by UP Závody was reupholstered by hand in powder-pink leather and plum velvet.
On the Space Age table a shelf was upholstered in green velvet, which made the piece unique.
Filling, glass and metal
New filling, springs and webbing restore the shape of a seat. Metal joints can be reinforced, and in the Space Age table new toughened glass was fitted in the same warm brown as the original.
Chrome and aluminium bases and swivel mechanisms are checked so that the piece sits and moves as it should.
Your piece
We restore furniture for private clients too. Send photos of your armchair, sofa or table and we will reply personally with what can be done. We do not promise to make it look new: we restore it so that it keeps its history.
